Hotel Plantación
Sustainable Hotel | Jardin, Colombia
Hotel Plantación is a sustainable hotel in Colombia that is making a real positive impact on its local environment and transforming what it means to run a planet conscious business in the travel space.
My creative work with Hotel Plantación included several elements including a collaborative social media campaign, UGC, and photography. The assignment was open ended, so I chose to create a mix of content and fill the gaps I identified, focusing on the unique elements of the hotel. Because I deeply appreciated their mission and was inspired by their space, I decided to surpass agreed upon deliverables. This project was personally, extremely impactful to re-imagining how accommodation structures can be accomplished in the travel industry.

This stunning hotel is in the perfect location to explore the pueblo and surrounding places like waterfalls, fincas, and many trails. The rooms are also beautifully designed creating the most tranquil space to simply relax. I enjoyed so much reading on the terrace and I think this may have been the most comfortable bed and room I’ve ever slept in.
During my stay I was also so impressed by their commitment to sustainability by reducing waste, negative environmental impact and supporting local businesses. Here’s a few examples and practices Hotel Plantation implements:
🌿They have a plant-based restaurant with delicious plates made from locally sourced ingredients.
🌿They use diverse energy sources and don’t rely on propane. Plus the building is designed with materials to naturally insulate and cool the hotel so no heating or AC is needed and the temperatures are so pleasant.
🌿They own a reserve where they’ve planted over 2,000 trees.
🌿All of their hotel operations have sustainability and waste reduction in mind. For example, collecting rain water to use in the toilets and garden, using biodegradable toilet paper and soaps, and having trash separation available in rooms for guests.
You can read about more things they do in their sustainability manifesto, but I overall I’ve never felt so confident about staying somewhere and promoting it here on my page.
Travel does have a huge impact on the environment, and while I believe there’s more to the solution, personal choices are still important. And at Hotel Plantation while they reject traditional hotels’ logic of “comfort at any price” – I can tell you from experience that while Hotel Plantation is sustainable, your comfort is not sacrificed 😌
